Michigan

Amazing sunsets. Turquoise water. Lighthouses. New found friends. Barns. The Amish. Long walks on the beach. These are the things I think of when I think about Michigan.

Michigan is another incredible place that Rob and I have been able to experience together. We've gone there two times now and I have to say if you have never been before..you should definitely think about going sometime. When I moved to Illinois from California I was positive I was going to miss the beach the most. But once I experienced the "beaches" of Lake Michigan, with their turquoise water and white sand I realized the beaches in Southern California could not compare. And the fact that they are fresh water and not salt water makes it even better.

To me the highlight of our whole past trip was getting to see the Big Sable Point Lighthouse. Completed in 1867 and standing at a height of 112 feet. AMAZING. That is all I can say. And of course we had to walk about two miles along the coast to get to it. But it was SO worth it. Here is a picture of it:

Besides the beautiful scenery, the main reason we go to Michigan is to spend time with Rob's best friend Kirt, his wife Cora and their two kids Devin and Desmond. They are all incredible people just like Rob. I am so thankful to have met them and to be able to call them "family". Here are a couple photos of Rob and Kirt:

Some of the things we did while in Michigan were:

  • Long walks on the beach.
  • Kirt's surprise 40th birthday party.
  • Golfing (Rob and Kirt golfing, me driving the golf cart).
  • Checking out different lighthouses.
  • Napping in the hammock.
  • A nice drive through "Amish Town".
  • Hardy Dam
  • Croton Dam
  • What we do best..driving around without a destination in mind.

And here are the rest of my favorite photos from our two trips:

To Kirt, Cora, Devin and Desmond:
Thanks for allowing us to stay at your house while we were in town. And most of all thanks for being such awesome people! Can't wait until we can do it again.

And Rob thank you SO much for making everyday with you fun and amazing. I love you!
